Fanis Poulinakis was born on Jan. 6th on the island of the Minotaur, Crete. Since 2001 he creates ideas and experiences that make heartbeats go faster for either TV or Digital. He also has myopia. I’m a TV Series Geek… I literally watch every series that is out there. I am heavily into writers and their work and astonished with some of the characters they create.
My favorite is definitely Aaron Sorkin. “Newsroom” is a serious standout! I’ve been hooked lately with BBC’s “The Fall”, one of the best murder-dramas I’ve ever watched. Among others, I am a fanatic of course of “The Following”, “Downtown Abbey”, “Doctor Who” and “Absolutely Fabulous”!
I am a POP guy and not ashamed about it! I admire for marketing reasons Madonna – there should be a college marketing class about her – and all the artists that have been N1 for more than 20 years. It means something..right? Michael Jackson, is in my opinion one of the best things that have happened in music in the twentieth century.
I also follow a singer called Monica (find her on Youtube), Matisyahu, a group named The Pierces and also Crystal Castles.
I came up with a list of 8 books that I consider must-reads for all creatives, wannabe leaders and emotional people.

In a 6 month time period from its launch TLife became Greece’s leading online magazine for a female audience. The portal has been visited by more than 2 million unique visitors monthly (that is quite an accomplishment, taking into consideration the country’s small population).
Idea: One of the things I insisted on from the very beginning was raising a budget to start producing our own photo shoots and videos. Producing unique content for the audience really made a difference. My experience working for a female audience as a director for a morning variety TV Show targeted to females really helped me decide on the proper content for this portal.

Founded and developed www.fivess.gr, a platform that was inspired by the economic crisis. Fivess seeks to enable educated, unemployed individuals to obtain extra income.
Idea: Since our audience is quite young, we decided to go with a happy approach as far as design is concerned. This also distract viewers from thinking about the financial crisis. It’s been online for 6 months and has already generated quite a buzz!
Live Investigation Show
I was requested to create (content/user interface/production) a portal related to the ministry of defense and its personnel. OnAlert.gr. That was something totally out of my league and content ideas were a big challenge! After a lot of research, I decided to go with a less fancy interface to try and target all of the different branches of the military. My personal favorite detail is that depending on what branch the viewer is interested in, they can change the colors of the site (upper right side).
TV News Portal
ZappIT is all about media coverage. TV, Films,Radio and newspapers are part of its content. I decided to go with TV-like graphics.
Hint: Fancy logos, bright colors and an easy to read layout are used in order to gather viewers of both genders and all ages, reminded them of their favorite TV shows. One of my main goals here was enabling the audience to use the site for catching up on favorite TV moments that might have been missed during the day/week. It is similar to an online Tivo for small TV clips. The site has had great success with more than 400k unique monthly visitors, ranking number one for it’s category.

In less than one year Newsit became Greece’s leading online news portal with more than 2 million monthly unique visitors and an Alexa ranking of 11 for Greece.My main concern on this project was to make viewers come back to the site as often as possible. The competition on this specific niche is quite fierce, even in Greece with tens of other news portals already existing.
Idea:I decided that the key for making the viewer come back, besides the fast news update, would be for the home page to show updates and change its appearance as often as possible. The result? Millions of viewers every day and more than 250 news articles appear on the home page at once!

This is a just quick brainstorming (took 25 minutes of my time) and I believe they can be ideal for morning shows (Good Morning America, Today Show, CBS This morning, New Day etc. Some of the ideas might have been broadcasted before, since I have been watching them constantly for only the last year. I quit an amazing career and being one of the top creative talents to explore new worlds, new cities (so New York City here I come!), and create new experiences. I want to increase heartbeats for an even larger audience…After all it’s all about the heart…isn’t it?

There is only one Oprah…and there is a reason why! I’ve been following Oprah and her work for quite some years (15+) and I feel I know the secret to her success. Have you ever seen her interviews?
The Katie show has been running for almost a year now and has had some very good moments and some so so ones. As in every other show, the first season is usually a trial and error. It does take time to find out what show ideas fit best both the TV Host/Hostess and the audience.
As a TV Director + Ideas Specialist for a Daily, 3-hour live show targeted to women (For 4 years, I had to wake up super super early…Grrrr), I do have the feeling that if they do continue for a 2nd season (I hope so – there is so much trash out there that should be canceled instead!) they should go much bigger!

AOL is one of my favorite companies and many of your favorite websites are owned by them (TechCrunch, Engadget, Moviefone, Patch, Stylist,TUAW to name a few). I totally disagree with those who are skeptical regarding the company’s prospects. AOL’s homepage should more effectively showcase the different content partners/brands and become a major part of the company’s rebranding. I brainstormed for about an hour, worked with a designer-friend and came out with some ideas.
